Upon their arrival in Angola, the volunteers were welcomed in Luanda, at the Casa Provincial do Cristo Rei, by the missionaries of he Society of the Divine Word. They then travelled to the village of Caota, in the province of Benguela.
The mission aimed to develop activities in the areas of agriculture, education, and healthcare. In addition to the work to be carried out on the ground, the volunteers brought medicines, clothing, and seeds to be distributed among the community.

Upon arrival, they met with representatives of the village to identify the most pressing needs and, together with the local population, determine the best way to intervene. The aim was to ensure that the activities carried out would genuinely respond to the community’s needs.
From the 21st onwards, two of the project’s main areas of intervention began: healthcare and community empowerment.
At the D. Armando Amaral dos Santos Health Centre in Benguela, an institution named after the first Bishop of Benguela, the volunteers were warmly welcomed by the healthcare professionals. Throughout the mission, medical consultations were held at the Health Centre from Monday to Thursday.
On Fridays and Saturdays, the volunteers travelled to Caota to provide healthcare to the local community, ensuring that those with greater difficulty travelling could also have access to medical care and follow-up.
At the same time, training sessions for the Caota community began. In coordination with local representatives, the schedules were organised to accommodate the different realities of the population. In the mornings, activities were aimed at children and young people, while in the afternoons, the training sessions were intended for mothers and young adults.
Education was one of the central areas of the mission in Caota. From their arrival, the volunteers worked daily with the community, from Monday to Saturday, seeking to create opportunities for learning, sharing, and mutual growth.
In the mornings, activities were aimed at children, with a particular focus on valuing education, encouraging curiosity, and highlighting the importance of education for their future.
In the afternoons, the sessions were aimed at young people and adults, with empowerment activities focused on the sustainability of the community and the creation of lasting sources of income. Topics included the production of items for sale and the cultivation of food for personal consumption, always using techniques adapted to the local context and the resources available in Caota.
More than simply teaching, this mission was a true exchange of knowledge. Every day, the volunteers also learned from the community, from its culture and traditions,
its way of life, and even the local games that are part of the daily lives of children and young people.

On the 30th, the volunteers had the privilege of visiting the home of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a community that plays a fundamental role in supporting unaccompanied girls by providing them with a home, food, education,
and a safe environment where they can grow with dignity and hope.
During the visit, the volunteers shared some of the work that had been carried out in Caota. Training sessions were also held in the areas of education, agriculture, and the production of items for sale, promoting knowledge that can contribute to the girls’ autonomy and sustainable development.
Several situations requiring medical follow-up were also identified, and support was provided to those who dedicate their lives every day to caring for others.
In the following days, the activities resumed: training sessions with the community, medical consultations, and activities with the children, always with the aim of sharing knowledge, creating opportunities, and learning from the local population.
The construction of a community oven was also started.
On August 5, colouring books, sports equipment, and footballs were given to the children of Casa do Gaiato and the village of Caota. The excitement on their faces, as well as their eagerness to put on the sports kits immediately and start playing, were moments the volunteers will hardly ever forget.

The following day, clothing kindly donated by DRESS A GIRL PORTUGAL was also distributed to the children of Caota and Casa do Gaiato. Before the end of the mission, the volunteers also conducted training sessions at the Health Centre, namely in basic life support and suturing techniques, in an atmosphere marked by great interest and active participation from the healthcare professionals.
The construction of the community oven was also completed, a project developed together with the local population.
In addition to leaving the oven fully built, the volunteers sought to share the knowledge and skills needed so that the community can replicate the project in the future.
The farewell was just as special as the arrival. As a gesture of gratitude, the community prepared a heartfelt surprise for the volunteers, including personalised T-shirts and a meal prepared in the new community oven.
And so, the volunteers left behind a little of themselves in Benguela, while taking with them far more than what they had brought.
